System Delivery Methodology Framework

Four Delivery Phases & Ten Disciplines

The lifecycle is decomposed over time into four sequential phases, each concluded by a major milestones. Each phase may encompass zero or more iterations. The system is built/developed in each iteration, and each concludes by a minor milestone with assessment of the iteration objectives in order to make adjustment in the next iteration. At each phase-end an assessment is performed to determine whether the objectives of the phase have been met. A satisfactory assessment allows the project to move to the next phase.

Refer to SDM Framework for details.

Ten disciplines are defined:

  1. Business Modelling
  2. Requirements
  3. Analysis & Design
  4. Implementation
  5. Test
  6. Deployment
  7. Environment
  8. Project Management
  9. Configuration & Change Management
  10. Product/Package Acquisition

Development Case A - Acquisition of integrated solution and/or COTS package with customisation

This development case is to define the specific system delivery process for project(s) for acquisition and implementation of integrated solution or Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) package with customisation.

Scope:

When participate in procurement and delivery of an integrated solution or a COTS package with customisation for improving specific business process(es). Desktop applications and network/platform/telecom infrastructure implementation are excluded.

Development Case B- In-house development/enhancement works

This development case is to define the specific system delivery process for project(s) for new system(s) or enhancement /upgrade of major system component(s) developed in-house.

Scope:

When participate in developing a new system, enhancement of existing system, or upgrade a major system component.

Development Case C- Infrastructure implementation

This development case is to define the specific system delivery process for project for implementation of infrastructure systems and/or components. This defined pocess can also apply to COTS component implementation with no software development/customisation.

Scope:

When participate in procurement and implementation of infrastructure system/components. It also applies to COTS component implementation with no software development. It covers upgrade, replacement and enhancement works for:

Refer to Development Case A or B for COTS customisation or software development works.
